In 2008, the market crashed. By 2009 we saw signs of rebound and began to believe that the world was coming out of financial crisis. As we approach 2012, it is clear that the financial crunch still exists and has spread outside the U.S. and into Europe.

Companies are not hiring at the robust levels the economy would like to see and they are not spending at the levels we have seen in the past because they are not selling like we would have anticipated in a recovery.  Is it a recovery or will it be a double dip recession?  Either way, experts say this type of economy may last for another few years.

In this economic climate, businesses will continue to do more with less.  They will not refresh as they did in the past, and companies will try to make their equipment last longer.  If that is the case, why would companies continue to have equipment maintained by OEMs?  That is, unless they want the following:
  1. Their costs to rise on an annual basis.
  2. The OEM come to them and tell them their equipment has hit End Of Life (EOL) or End Of Service (EOS) and they must purchase new equipment.
  3. Multiple contracts that are confusing and not flexible.
  4. Multiple numbers to call for maintenance.
  5. Need to call offshore centers and wait until tomorrow before someone shows up on site to repair your equipment.
  6. Pay exorbitant fees for service outside of the program.

These are just a few of inconveniences you can have if you don’t want to change.

Technology research and advisory firm Gartner has stated that, “robust, credible hardware maintenance competition will typically reduce the [vendor’s] original bid by more than 20%, or save more than 40% by outsourcing  to reliable Third Party Maintainers.1"

When a market expert like Gartner recommends alternatives to OEM maintenance, you may want to consider your options. Contact us today to learn how Canvas Systems can provide better quality maintenance for your company’s data center equipment at a significant cost savings over the OEM.
